We are honored to announce that Noonu Atoll has been officially invited to join the prestigious Strong Cities Network (SCN), a global coalition working to combat extremism, hate, and polarization while promoting social cohesion and resilience. The invitation, extended by SCN’s Executive Director, Eric Rosand, underscores Noonu Atoll’s commitment to community well-being and aligns with our Resilient Communities (LDP-5) plan.

As part of SCN, Noonu Atoll will gain:
  • Access to a network of mayors, local leaders, and practitioners dedicated to community safety and inclusion.

  • Participation in in-person and virtual events, such as regional workshops and roundtables.

  • Practical resources, including guides and city-specific case studies, to help shape our local efforts in preventing hate and extremism.

  • Opportunities to share our local priorities in national and global policy discussions.

Notably, SCN’s South Asia Regional Hub is already working closely with local governments in the region, hosting workshops and offering technical support, ensuring that the voices and needs of communities like ours are represented on a global stage. We will benefit from resources like the SCN’s Resource Hub, an evolving library of tools, guides, and case studies aimed at enhancing local preventive efforts. Upcoming “City Spotlights,” including for Fuvahmulah in the Maldives, will provide even more inspiration for tackling local challenges.

Through this membership, Noonu Atoll will continue advancing its community-focused goals, aligned with our Resilient Communities Plan, enhancing safety, environmental sustainability, and social well-being. This collaboration strengthens our role as a leader in the global fight against extremism while ensuring a brighter, safer future for our residents.
